A local logistics firm has been fined £55,000 for using illegal workers.

Published by the UK Government's Immigration Enforcement service, Assured Group was named in a huge list of companies to have received fines.

The company - which is based at Harriott Drive, Heathcote Industrial Estate - received the fine between July and September last year.

The government website says the fines are issued to "employers in the UK that have received fines (civil penalties) for illegal working".

Fines are given to: "Employers who have not paid or are not making regular payments towards a penalty 28 days after they have exhausted all their objection and/or appeal rights."

And to: "Employers who have been served with a second or further penalty once they have exhausted all their objection and/or appeal rights regardless of whether any payment has been made."

Assured Group has been approached for comment.
