Local boxer Danny Quartermaine has been helping spread awareness and raise money to help provide new facilities at the MacGregor Children's Ward at Warwick Hospital.

The pro-fighter, who trains at Cleary's Boxing Gym, visited the ward last week to spend time with some of the young patients, talking to them about boxing, sports and even super heroes - as well as signing autographs.

Danny said: "It's great to be helping out with such a great cause.

"Any donations towards the Young Minds Matter Appeal at the MacGregor ward, Warwick Hospital would be great.

"I met some amazing characters today and it was great to see the smiles on there faces too, it's nice to be nice."

Through the Young Minds Matter fundraiser, South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust is aiming to provide the best equipment for the new ward to "ensure all of our young patients experience a safe and engaging environment during their care".

The trust is aiming to raise £350,00 to build a new playroom, an adolescent recreational area and a sensory area, all of which will ensure a safe and engaging environment for our young patients.

£40,000 has already been donated by South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust clinical services.

There are also plans for a bereavement suite which will serve as a space for those experiencing devastating news, and will also allow parents some respite from the busy ward.

The project was prompted by the increase in young mental health patients admitted to the ward since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic

The trust says the redevelopment will give staff the tools and resources they require to support these patients, as well as creating age-appropriate areas for all children spending time on the ward.

Danny will fight be fighting his eighth professional bout on the 11 March at the Sports Connexxion Leisure Club and Venue in Ryton On Dunsmore.
