UPDATE - This article was originally shared with a photograph of the election leaflet which has been electronically enhanced. This however distorted the image and thus was not a true representation of the leaflet. The article has been updated with the correct image. Nub News apologies to its readers, the local Labour group and Mr Dray for the error.

A Warwick election candidate has been forced to apologise after his campaign leaflet incorrectly claimed a local psychiatric hospital would be turned into houses.

The Labour candidate in the upcoming Warwick by-election, Michael Dray, has apologised "unreservedly" for the typo saying St Michael's Hospital in Warwick would be repurposed.

The leaflets have been distributed to households ahead of next week's All Saints & Woodloes by-election for Warwick Town Council.

In it, the candidate pledged to "building more affordable homes, including converting St Michael's Hospital and the leper hospital building into genuinely affordable flats".

In his apology, Mr Dray said the leaflet was meant to say St Michael's Place which is currently undergoing a major transformation into affordable homes through a Warwick District Council project.

"It has come to my attention there is an error in my election leaflet," the apology said.

"It wrongly states that St Michael's Hospital is being converted into affordable flats when in fact it is an area of St Michael's Place.

"On behalf of the campaign team we apologise unreservedly for the error and for any upset or distress caused."

Mr Dray has been in touch with Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust which runs the St Michael's Road site to confirm the rest of the leaflets are being thrown away.

Residents will head to the polls on Thursday 26 February 2026 to vote in a new All Saints & Woodloes ward councillor at Warwick Town Council.

The vote comes after the resignation of Cllr John Sullivan in December due to health issues.

The other candidates are Clare Bryan (Green Party), Laurence Byrne (Liberal Democrats), Moira-Ann Grainger (Conservative) and Claire Wightman (Warwick Independent Residents Association).
