Shocking pictures show the wrecked remains of a £186,000 Ferrari that crashed into trees while over-taking an off-duty police officer.

The sports car - thought to be a Roma model - was left wedged between tree trunks with its bonnet hanging off after it slid into the patch of woodland in bad weather.

The driver had been heading along the M40 Southbound near Warwick on New Year's Eve (Dec 31) when they drove past the officer "at speed".

But the extremely wet conditions combined with the motor's powerful V8 engine meant the car skidded off the road.

The red-faced driver walked away with just minor injuries after their airbag deployed - and police confirmed no one else was involved in the terrifying incident.

Warwickshire Police said: "The driver of this Ferrari is not having a Great start to his New Years Eve.

"Earlier this afternoon the driver overtook an off duty Police officer at speed on the M40 Southbound near Warwick.

"The driver lost control on the Wet Road surface and crashed off the road into trees.

"Thankfully the driver walked away with minor injuries and no other persons or vehicles were involved.

"If you are out on the roads tonight please take care, there are still localised areas of flooding and surface water in places."

Social media users who spotted the photos of the wrecked luxury vehicle were quick to poke fun at the driver's misfortune.

One wrote: "Can't park there mate."

Another added: "That should just buff out mate"
