Police have recovered cannabis and growing equipment after stopping a van on the M40 last week.

The driver managed to flee on foot as officers pulled the vehicle over near junction 15.

Police were unable to find them but recovered the drugs and the van as well as "plenty of information to help us track the driver".

A Warwickshire Operational Police Unit spokesperson said: "On Wednesday (July 6) afternoon we stopped a van on the M40 Southbound near junction 15.

"The driver didn't fancy hanging around to speak to us and as we stopped on the hard shoulder the driver decamped and ran off across fields.

"Despite an extensive search the driver managed to escape.

"We checked the van and found a quantity of cannabis and cultivation equipment inside.

"We recovered the van and the drugs and have plenty of information to help us track the driver down at a later date."
