Developer responds to community backlash with new plans for Costa near Warwick Cemetery

Updated plans have been put forward for a controversial new drive-thru Costa next to Warwick Cemetery.
Plans for the coffee shop along Birmingham Road have been met with over 100 objections from locals who have labelled the scheme "incongruous," "unnecessary" and in a "most unsuitable location".
Some have said the site will invade their privacy, while others have said the town does not need any more coffee shops.
And responding to the criticism of the appearance of the building and it being out of character next to the cemetery, applicant Warwick 27a Ltd has now submitted details of a landscaping scheme around the Costa.
Plans state a hedge will be planted so from 'day one' it is "providing a strong structural base and visual barrier".
Meanwhile semi-mature maple trees will be planted behind as well as other plants, meaning the screen will develop over the years.
The new report states: "The landscape design for our Haywood Road, Warwick Costa development embodies a sustainable, biodiversity-led approach that enhances both the ecological and social value of the space.
"The proposed landscape design has been carefully developed to provide both an immediate visual screen to the new Costa unit and a long-term enhancement in local biodiversity."
Warwick 27a Ltd has put forward drawings of how it predicts the screen will develop over five years.
