Plans for two new Hatton homes refused due to impact on the green belt

Plans for two new homes on the edge of Hatton have been thrown out by council planners who said the development was "inappropriate" use of the green belt.
Westwood Grange Homes Ltd has seen its application for the two detached homes off Shaws Lane refused, following multiple objections.
As well as eight locals, ecology and tree officers, Shrewley Parish Council also wrote against the scheme.
"The site is in the Green Belt where development is considered inappropriate unless there are special circumstances - no special circumstances have been detailed by the applicant," the council's objection said.
And planning officers at Warwick District Council agreed, saying that while the scheme would aid - modestly - to the local five-year land supply, this did not outweigh the harm to the green belt.
A council report said: "The development is considered to represent 'inappropriate development' within the green belt which is considered to cause harm by definition and harm to the openness of the green belt by reason of the harm associated with the number, likely size and location of the development proposed which encroaches into the countryside where there is an absence of built form.
"Substantial weight is afforded to the harm to the openness of the green belt."
In its application, Westwood said the scheme would be a modest 'infill' on the edge of Hatton.
"There continues to be a lot of development within the vicinity of Hatton," it said.
"In the WDC Local Plan the area is considered to be a sustainable location for a modest amount of additional housing.
"Although the site is outside the defined village boundary, the applicants consider the site would be suitable for 'limited infilling within a village'."
