Locals remain waiting for answers to whether 28 new affordable homes are set to be allowed in Shrewley.

A public inquiry was held over the planning appeal for Oakdene Crescent last month, but a decision is yet to be made by the planning inspectorate.

Warwick District Council last year refused to grant planning permission for the development, siding with the 168 locals who objected.

However, Altus Homes and Morro Partnerships - who are behind the scheme - then submitted an appeal in a bid to force through the application, describing the council's decision as "baffling".

When the proposals were first submitted, the application was for 34 new homes.

The land in question was previously owned by the Ministry of Defence.

"Socially, the proposed development would provide homes in an area that has historically delivered limited levels of new housing," the appeal said.

"These new homes would make an important contribution to the housing land supply through the windfall allowance, to assist the council in meeting their duty to significantly boost the supply of housing to help meet the housing requirements of the local and wider local area.

"The proposals would also increase housing choice for the local area, in an area of very high demand and significant unmet need.

"It would also add new residents to participate in local community activities and groups, boosting social cohesion by supporting existing social infrastructure."

When the application was refused, the district council said it was inappropriate use of the green belt.

The public hearing was held on Thursday 20 August at the Town Hall in Leamington Spa.

Papers prepared in advance of it state the impact on the green belt, accessibility, impact on the character of the area and the standard of living for future occupants were to be discussed.

Warwick District Council confirmed to Nub News a decision is yet to be made and remains with the planning inspectorate.
