Councillors will next week decide whether to allow a Warwick McDonald's to remain open 24/7.

People Arches Ltd, which runs the branch of McDonald's on Emscote Road, is hoping to extend its opening hours to 24 hours - though only for drive thru and delivery at certain times - having been given temporary permission to do so last year.

The business says it is meeting requests from a range of customers who work anti-social hours, including blue light staff and shift workers.

Next week, Warwick District Council's planning committee will consider a fresh application to make the timings permanent.

A report due to be discussed by councillors have recommended this be approved.

"Overall, and having regard to all of the above considerations, officers recommend that planning permission be granted," it said.

It continued: "Warwickshire Police in their consultation response have stated that McDonald's engages with the police effectively if they have had to attend the site and in their view the site is not one they have concerns with over crime.

"The safer communities department have also not raised any concerns to officers.

"Officers have reviewed the measures in place to deal with antisocial behaviour and noise management and have considered the comments from Warwickshire Police and the safer communities department.

"Officers are satisfied that the measures in place are sufficient to ensure such matters can be monitored and dealt with effectively."

Some six objections were submitted by locals with issues around noise, traffic and litter raised.

After being granted the temporary licence by last year, the Emscote Road eatery only extended its hours slightly as a trial, "to ensure fears of anti-social behaviour and litter were not borne out".

Founder Dawood Ibtehsam said the decision to take up the already-granted license to serve food 24 hours a day would serve the dual purpose of providing meals for those working anti-social hours, as well as ensuring the business remains sustainable in an incredibly difficult economic climate for hospitality.
