Neighbours will next week find out whether a Warwick McDonald’s will be given permission to stay open 24/7.

Dawood Ibtehsam has applied to keep the Emscote Road eatery open throughout the week, with current restrictions meaning he is only able to trade from 6am to 11pm currently.

A number of residents have already objected to the application, which is set to go before Warwick District Council’s (WDC) planning committee meeting next week.

A report to be discussed by councillors has recommended the scheme be given the green light.

“Several objection comments have been received, raising concerns about the alteration to the operational hours, noting that the proposal will bring additional vehicles to the site overnight as well as additional footfall,” the council’s report explained.

“Objectors have raised concerns that this is likely to increase noise levels, thereby having a detrimental impact on neighbouring amenity.

“The council's environmental health officer has been consulted as part of this planning application.

“They are satisfied with the conclusions of the noise impact assessment (NIA) in that the assessment has demonstrated that the proposed extended hours would have no observable adverse effect.

“The environmental health officer has raised no objection to the proposal subject to the imposition of a condition requiring the implementation of the mitigation measures and noise management plan outlined in the NIA.”

Mr Ibtehsam said the fast food outlet would only be available for drive-thru and delivery from midnight to 5am.

No dining in would be allowed.

But neighbours have said the Emscote Road fast food outlet's application would "make the area more unsafe".

Mrs G Williams wrote: "It could make the area more unsafe with more vehicles driving to and from the site, and they may speed when the roads are quieter which makes it unsafe for vulnerable road users.

"There could be more litter - litter gets dropped on Montague Road frequently.

"Local residents could feel more vulnerable if there are youth groups in the area and that could pose a risk of increased crime rate.

"Tesco shoppers/staff may feel more vulnerable if there are more people/groups gathering in the car park late at night."

Neil Buxton added: "To now agree to increased trading hours to 24 a day will have a detrimental impact on the residents of Emscote.

"Councillors will already be aware of antisocial behaviour on and around Emscote Road; these include litter, general rowdiness, drug dealing and speeding cars at night."

Defending his application, Mr Ibtehsam said: "We understand why there are concerns at our application to amend our opening hours.

"But while we are applying for a 24-hour license, we are doing so to meet what we have identified as a demand not just from people wanting to grab something to eat late at night, but for the many people who work anti-social hours and rely on us for something to eat at the end of a gruelling shift, or some fuel before they start a busy day early in the morning.

"We regularly have emergency services workers, care workers, and shift workers waiting for us to open our doors at 6am so they can have a cup of coffee or some food - a change to our license would mean that we could open our doors at 5am, and also that we can provide delivery and drive-thru services throughout the night."

Councillors will vote on the application on Thursday 12 December.
