Date confirmed for Warwickshire county elections as unitary plans snubbed

Locals will go to the polls in Warwickshire this May to elect a new county council after a bid to push this year's election was snubbed.
Warwickshire County Council (WCC) had asked to be in the first wave of government changes which would have seen the county, borough and district councils abolished and a single authority created for Warwickshire.
The Conservative-led local authority had asked for permission to postpone the elections this spring to push ahead with the shakeup.
But it was confirmed earlier this month that WCC will not be in the first round of local government reforms.
Instead, Warwickshire residents will head to the polls on Thursday 1 May 2025 to vote in a new Warwickshire County Council, the local authority's website confirmed.
All 57 divisions will be elected, with once councillor returned for each to serve a four-year term.
None of the divisions have changed since the 2021 election.
The results are expected to be confirmed during the day on Friday 2 May.
The WCC elections are the only ones to take place in the south of the county in 2025.
Currently the county council is controlled by the Conservative group which has 41 of the seats.
Labour is the second biggest group with six.
Meanwhile the Liberal Democrats hold five, the Greens three, with the final two seats occupied by Independents.
