Warwick residents will be able to have their real Christmas trees taken away alongside their rubbish collections from next week.

Warwick District Council will collect real trees between January 9 and 20 for free.

Residents do not need to have a green bin subscription in order for their tree to be taken away.

A WDC statement said: "We'll be collecting real Christmas trees from 9 – 20 January 2023, and you don't need to have a green bin permit subscription to have yours collected.

"Please ensure that all lights and decorations have been removed from the tree. Any tree that is over 5ft tall must be cut in half.

"Leave your tree outside in a place that's not obstructing the highway, and we'll collect it for you.

"If you're subscribed to the green bin service, you can chop it up and put it in your bin."

The council is also encouraging residents to have their trees collected by two local charities.

The Myton Hospices and Pass The Smile offer a real Christmas tree collection and recycling service from your doorstep for a small donation.

Pass The Smile raises funds for research into Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare childhood cancer, in memory of Ben Crowther from Coventry.

During treatment Ben tried to cheer up other patients, friends, family and the hospital staff by telling jokes and pulling pranks.

Volunteers will be out collecting and recycling real Christmas trees throughout Coventry and Warwickshire on 13, 14 and 15 January 2023. You can check if we collect from your postcode, and arrange a collection.

Their target is to collect 4,000 trees.

Trees are taken back to Russells Garden Centre in Baginton, shredded, and used as path mulching, a socially conscious and environmentally friendly disposal method.
