A request to allow a Warwick industrial building to be used for a wider range of businesses has been blocked by Warwick District Council.

Allworks Properties Ltd had submitted an application for a 'certificate of lawfulness' for the building at Cape Road Industrial Estate, asking for it to be recognised as 'class E' which allows for a huge range of commercial ventures.

The business submitted three testimonies from previous occupants and the insurance brokers who all said the building should be recognised as the wider classification.

The supporting letter stated: "We maintain that the sworn testimonies of these declarations confirm that the building's use was solely and holistically within the confines of Use Class E."

But council planners said the evidence was not sufficient and said the building had been used for manufacturing since it was given planning permission originally in the 1990's.

In its decision, the council stated: "The applicants' evidence is not sufficiently precise and unambiguous to justify the grant of a certificate on the balance of probability."

The decision comes after another planning application to turn the building into 10 flats was thrown out by planners earlier this year.
