Parking charges across Warwick look set to be frozen for next year.

A report to be discussed by Warwick District Council's cabinet this week recommends that prices at car parks across the district will not change in the new year.

WDC introduced new charges last December which saw the 30-minute fee and lower Sunday charges scrapped across the district - a decision that was met with anger by residents.

The council said at the time fewer people were using its car parks, so prices needed to be raised to cover costs.

And looking ahead to next year, the WDC report says parking levels are not expected to return to pre-pandemic levels.

"For 2023/24 car park income levels are forecast to remain consistent with 2022/23," it said. 

"It is expected that the changes we have seen in the level of their use, driven by remote / hybrid working adopted by many businesses and changing habits of visitors to the district, will continue at levels similar to 2022. 

"Car park usage will continue to be monitored to ensure the budgets set remain a true reflection of their ongoing demand.

"Car parking across the district has been reviewed, with the decision to freeze parking charges at 2023/23 levels being proposed."

The report also says that fewer people are buying season tickets than in the past, with this expected to continue.

It also said making parking machines cashless had reduced collection costs.

"The initiative is not just about income but also designed to encourage people to shop and stay in WDC's town centres," the report added. 

"Free parking for electric vehicles in council car parks can be obtained through a season pass."

It also showed that the council expects to have made nearly £4million from parking charges by the end of 2022/23.

The report will be discussed by cabinet on Thursday, November 3.
