Plans for the 121-acre Tachbrook Country Park have been given the green light by Warwick District Council's planning committee.

A decision on the substantial new public open space south of Warwick and Leamington Spa had been delayed, much to the frustration of locals and councillors.

But following a decision last night (November 8) the council's project team can now complete the necessary land transfers and sign contractors with developers to start creating the park.

Council leader Cllr Andrew Day said: "This welcome decision brings overdue good news to the thousands of residents who have made their homes in the new communities that are forming in Bishop's Tachbrook and Heathcote.

"At last, we can get on with the job of establishing this much anticipated country park that will provide accessible, sustainable green space and an array of public benefits for all ages.

"Thank you to all our partners who have worked so hard to overcome significant obstacles to get this vital project moving."

Eventually the park will include orchards, two allotment areas, a community growing area, a cafe, and children's play areas.

This as well as an 'ecological wetland habitat' with viewing platform, a wildflower meadow, and a children's play trail.

Parish councillor Cllr Sean Deely, chair of the Tachbrook Country Park Steering Board and added: "This is a significant step forward in delivering a fantastic new amenity which will vitally connect local communities and serve many more.

"This unlocks the next stages in delivering the Tachbrook Country Park, which we are aiming to complete as soon as is feasibly possible."

Stretching between Bishop's Tachbrook, Whitnash, Leamington Spa and Warwick, Tachbrook Country Park will become one of the largest green spaces in the district connecting the new housing developments to Oakley School and other major public amenities planned for the area.
