Controversial Warwick petrol station plans unanimously approved
Plans to demolish and rebuild a Warwick petrol station have been approved, despite the vocal opposition of neighbours.
Having previously deferred making a decision to ask for more information, councillors this week signed off on plans for the current Stratford Road filling station to be flattened and replaced with a modern facility.
Euro Garages Group has now been given planning permission to install new EV chargers, a new retail unit and petrol pubs on the site.
The decision came in the face of over 100 objections from locals, and a public speaker who said the development would seriously impact the surrounding houses.
But Warwick District Council’s planning committee was satisfied that suitable steps - including a 2.7 metre sound barrier surrounding the site - had been taken to mitigate noise.
Cllr Matt Collins said: “As someone who was at the previous committee when we deferred this, I personally feel a lot of the important points we raised have been addressed reasonably well.”
Cllr Bill Gifford added: “It is worth noting that environmental health now have no concerns, highways have no concerns, ecology now have no concerts, Warwick Town Council have withdrawn their objection and landscaping now have no concerns.
“It would be very difficult to refuse this application successfully.”
The application was unanimously approved.
