Controversial Aldi entrance plans to go before councillors again

Controversial plans to create a new entrance for an Aldi supermarket are set to go before councillors again next week.
Warwick District Council's (WDC) planning committee last month deferred a decision on the plans for the Tachbrook Park Drive Queensway, saying more information was needed from highways officers.
A number of objections had been submitted, including from Warwick Town Council and from Cllr Becky Davidson who said residents were being "continuously lied to by developers, and let down by highways and planning".
However, a report prepared by WDC planning officers has recommended the application be approved.
Currently customers can only access the car park from the roundabout at the entrance to Leamington Shopping Park.
But if plans are approved, the delivery entrance off Queensway would be made useable for shoppers.
At the last meeting, councillors said the new entrance would allow the car park to become a 'rat run' and said it was also "dangerous" for pedestrians.
But a council report said these issues had been considered by officers.
"The highways authority has previously queried the potential for rat-running through the site in order for drivers to avoid the new signals at the Europa Way roundabout," it explained.
"The applicant has noted that this did not appear to occur/cause issues during the period that the barrier was open and therefore would be unlikely going forward.
"The highways authority note this and have advised that even if it were to occur there should be capacity at the Tachbrook Park Drive roundabout to accommodate this and any potential issues created by through traffic would impact private land rather than the public highway."
The application will go before Warwick District Council's planning committee on Tuesday 10 February.
