Continued delays to the £38 million roadworks at the A46's Stoneleigh junction have been blamed on supply issues, yet again.

Last September Nub News reported the project had been given a revised completion date of "winter 2023/24" following issues in sourcing the 'backfill material' for the new bridge.

An update was then published in January saying the project to build a new bridge and roundabout will not be finished until "later in the year".

Warwickshire County Council (WCC) had initially said the new junction would be completed by summer 2022.

And now an update shared with locals from Kenilworth Town Council has reiterated the supply issues.

"Good progress has already been made with substantial elements of the scheme nearing completion – Dalehouse Lane and Stoneleigh Road are on their new alignments, the new bridge over Finham Brook is open and there have been significant works completed on the A46 itself," the update from WCC to the town council said.

"The remaining issue with this scheme is in relation to the supply of the backfill material for the new bridge over the A46 and we are all working as quickly as possible to resolve this issue and get the scheme completed.

"We would like to thank our residents for their continued patience and reassure them that we are as keen as they are to see all traffic management removed from the A46 Stoneleigh."

The new bridge deck was installed at the end of January 2023, it is yet to be connected to the new road layout.

In September the council said this was because the material to backfill the bridge "could not be obtained" as part of a national issue.

In September Nub News was also told the project remained within budget. However following an request to clarify whether this was still the case in January, we were told "commercial matters cannot be commented on during the construction".
