A council-owned building in Warwick which has been on the market for two years can now be turned into a chiropractic and family health centre thanks to a planning decision.

Permission has been granted for the change of use at Northgate House on Northgate in the town centre.

The building has been for sale since 2024, with Warwickshire County Council trying to shift the former training and conference centre.

Now, Kenilworth Chiropractic Clinic has been given the green light to repurpose the building by Warwick District Council.

Approving the scheme, a council report said: "The site is located within the town centre.

"The proposed use is a retention of conference facilities and introduction of medical use to replace training use.

"It is considered that the proposed medical use which qualifies as a community facility is an appropriate use for a town centre location.

"In addition to this the town centre location means that the site is accessible through alternative means of transport other than the private car, contributing to the sustainable location of such community facilities.

"It is not considered that the proposed use would be uncharacteristic of the town centre location and that it would not generate patterns of movement uncharacteristic of the central location."

The building itself will not be altered as part of the application.

The application said: "The provision of a town centre chiropractic and family health centre will be a community asset.

"There are numerous other health clinics, doctor's surgeries, pharmacies and dental surgeries in the vicinity and the provision of chiropractic care, with specialist provision for children with physical disabilities and the family health centre, will enhance the local healthcare provision.

"The hub of healthcare facilities in the area will be improved by the provision of chiropractic care, the family health centre and specialist services for children with disabilities.

"The conservation area is not harmed by the proposed change of use.

"The provision of chiropractic care with specialist provision for children with physical and/or learning disabilities and the family health centre will provide significant health and safety benefits for locals and visitors alike."
