Members of the community have thrown their support behind plans to turn a Warwick ambulance station into a nursery.

Clarendon Cubs Ltd has applied for planning permission to repurpose the vacant site at Montague Road to create a nursery able to accommodate 88 children.

Some 19 notices of support have been submitted to the planning application.

Christine Worrall said: "This is an excellent new use for the site as there is a great need for nursery facilities in

the area for young families and the location is easily accessible."

While Talia Collins added: "This is not simply a nursery that meets the basic expectations of childcare.

"In my experience, they consistently go above and beyond what I would expect from a nursery.

"The staff are caring, attentive and genuinely invested in the children.

"They take the time to understand each child's individual needs, personality and development, ensuring that children are supported as individuals rather than treated as simply part of a group."

However, the application has also drawn several objections.

Syd Hemmings wrote: "There is no demonstrable need for additional nursery places in this location.

"The surrounding area already has substantial childcare provision with surplus places."

The building was sold last year for nearly £600,000.

If approved, the scheme would see the existing open plan room divided into three separate rooms for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers.

A new baby change area, kitchen, staff room, utility room, toilets and offices will also be provided.

A large part of the western car park will be replaced with an outside playground and a forest school area.

The 65-year-old building has been vacant since the ambulance station closed in 2024.

It was then put on the market with housing developers interested in purchasing it but unable to due to a restriction on putting more buildings on part of the site.
