A chain café at the Shires Retail Park has been given a one-star hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Caffe Nero has received the low rating at its Tachbrook Park Drive site, and has been told "major improvements" are "necessary".

The chain was given the low rating following an inspection in the middle of December.

The FSA said major improvement was necessary in the "management of food safety".

Meanwhile cleanliness and conditions of the facilities were labelled as "improvement necessary".

"Generally satisfactory" was the most complimentary statement of the rating - given to how hygienically food is handled there.

Caffe Nero has to display this rating in the window of the coffee shop.

At the other end of the rating spectrum, a five-star review means the venue's hygiene standards are very good and fully comply with the law.

To get the top rating, businesses must do well in all three elements of an inspection.

This includes how hygienically the food is handled, the physical condition of the business and how the business manages ways of keeping food safe through training and processes.

Caffe Nero has been approached for comment.
