Building work starts on Warwick military museum's new home
Building work has begun on the Fusilier Museum at Pageant House in Warwick.
The museum, which covers the history of the 6th Foot The Royal Warwickshire Regiment and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, has had to move venues after a loss of public funding.
The museum has been based at St John's house for 60 years following the closure of Budbooke Barracks in the 1950s.
The site had to close in March 2020 due to the pandemic but will now reopen at Pageant House with new displays including a replica First World War trench.
Pageant House, a Grade II listed building, is owned by Warwick District Council, and houses the town clerk's office as well as the mayor's parlour and registry offices.
The museum is set to open on the first floor later this year.
"We are delighted to announce that The Fusilier Museum Warwick has not disappeared, and we will be back in the autumn with a new look and visitor experience for all to enjoy," said John Rice, chairman of trustees of The Fusilier Museum Warwick.
"Together with the recently opened Museum of The Queen's Royal Hussars and the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum, we are committed to preserving and telling the story of our part in Warwickshire's contribution to this country's military activities over the centuries,
"The 6th Regiment of Foot, the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and their successors, The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers have a long and proud history, and the museum looks forward to welcoming visitors old and new when we reopen later in the year."
