An appeal to force through plans for a huge digital billboard at Racing Club Warwick's ground has been thrown out by a planning inspector.

Alight Media submitted the appeal after Warwick District Council planners blocked permission for the LED screen measuring 6.4 metres by 3.4 metres.

Officers described the screen as "alien" to the Hampton Road site - a view which was held up by the planning inspector.

Dismissing the appeal, a report said: "The proposal, due to its scale, design, positioning and horizontal emphasis would appear intrusive and incongruous in the above context where advertisements are predominantly confined to non-illuminated boards relating to commercial, recreational and sports club uses.

"The only exception to this is a small, illuminated panel on a bus shelter.

"Whilst light levels emitted would or could be reduced overnight, it would nevertheless be a bright feature in the streetscape."

Local neighbours and Warwick Town Council had objected to the application.
