Plans for a BT 'street hub' in Warwick's town centre have been submitted to the district council.

If approved, the scheme would see the structure installed on Market Street where a phone box used to stand.

Designed as a modern phone box, the hubs carry huge adverts on each side as well as providing Wi-Fi and phone services.

The hubs are double-sided with large internally illuminated LCD display screens on each side.

"In the case of this proposal site, the installation of the street hub unit would provide a modern, multifunctional alternative to the traditional 'mast' that would act as a communication hub within a dense urban area, while ensuring that the character of the area is not significantly adversely impacted upon in respect of matters relating to amenity and public safety," the application to Warwick District Council said.

BT has submitted applications for two hubs in the town centre.
