Up to 10 potential new housing sites in Warwick have been suggested for the new South Warwickshire Local Plan.

The sites, most of which are currently in the green belt, were put forward during a six-week public consultation last summer.

The results of the consultation, published today by Warwick and Stratford district councils, also include seven industrial and one 'mixed development' areas near Warwick.

In total 555 sites identified by residents and businesses across South Warwickshire will now be assessed by the two councils for their joint local plan.

But Warwick District Council stressed that publishing the survey results today "is in no way an endorsement by either council that the site is either suitable for development or will be included within the local plan itself."

Councillors have also been quick to thank the 581 responses to the survey.

"The South Warwickshire Local Plan will be critically important in the shaping of future development of the area over the next 30 years," said WDC portfolio holder for place and economy Cllr John Cooke.

"We are therefore grateful to all those who have contributed to this vital first stage.

"Now this preparatory work has been done we can start the process of identifying and considering options of how and where we can meet the combined housing, employment, educational, leisure and other infrastructure needs for the future."

With the results of the 'call for sites' consultation published, the council will now assess how suitable each site is before launching a second survey asking residents to share their opinions.

The new plan, which will run until 2050, is not expected to be put into practice until late 2025.

A WDC statement added: "The call for sites is an important part of plan-making, but crucially, only one part of the process.

"The suitability of sites for development and addressing infrastructure constraints are equally important.

"The call for sites is the starting point for that plan-making process and a further 'call' may be required if the councils conclude that the sites submitted are not suitable or are in the wrong locations."
