This morning's election results have been grim reading for Warwickshire Conservatives who have seen losses across the county.

Heading into Thursday (July 4) the Tories held all but one of the six local seats, with Matt Western in Warwick and Leamington the Labour outlier.

But now the Conservatives are the minority in Warwickshire, with only Sir Jeremy Wright holding his seat in Kenilworth and Southam.

His majority has been cut to around 6,500 votes, meanwhile Mr Western's has swelled to 12,000.

Results in the north of the county were the first to be declared locally, with North Warwickshire Borough Councillor Jodie Gosling taking Nuneaton for Labour with a majority of 3,479.

Neighbouring North Warwickshire was won by Labour's Rachel Taylor who now has a 2,000 vote lead. Reform's Paul Hopkins came a close second here behind outgoing MP Craig Tracey.

In Rugby John Slinger won for Labour with 19,533 votes, with Yousef Dahmash second for the Conservatives with 15,105. Kenilworth town and district councillor Richard Dickson took 3,252 votes in fourth place.

In Stratford-on-Avon Manuela Perteghella took a resounding 8,000 vote majority with Conservative Chris Clarkson taking second place. Nadhim Zahawi had been the Tory MP before the election, but did not seek re-election.

Ms Perteghella is the first Liberal MP in Stratford since 1906 when they defeated the Conservative Party.

Meanwhile in nearby Coventry, Labour took all three seats.

MPs Taiwo Owatemi and Zarah Sultana were re-elected in Coventry North West and South and Mary Creagh will become the new MP for Coventry East. It is a stark difference to the results of the contest five years ago.

Back then, Ms Owatemi and Ms Sultana's seats were among the most marginal in the UK. The pair got a similar amount of votes today but their Tory challengers saw their number of votes plummet to thousands less than they had before.

Both MPs now have majorities of over 10,000, while Ms Creagh has one of 11,000.
