The candidates hoping to become the new MP for Warwick and Leamington have shared their final pleas to voters ahead of tomorrow's (July 4) general election.

Six candidates have thrown their hats in the ring for the constituency, which is set to be one of the most hotly contested in the country.

This is what each of the candidates said...

Louis Adam - Liberal Democrats

So many people have told me in the past they wanted to vote for me and the Liberal Democrats but felt they couldn’t risk it.

With the Tories practically down and out, now is your chance to vote for who you want to and elect me as a strong local voice for the people of Warwick & Leamington.

I will work tirelessly to save the NHS and care sector, end the sewage scandal, and ease the cost of living for all.

Louis Adams says 'now is your chance to vote for who you want'

Matt Western - Labour

It has been the privilege of my life to serve the people of Warwick, Leamington, Whitnash and the villages over the last 7 years. Many of you lent me your vote in 2017 and 2019 and I have worked hard everyday to deliver on the trust you placed in me on those days.

From saving our local train station ticket offices and campaigning against fracking in our beautiful county to speaking over 1,400 times in Parliament, I hope I have proven myself to be a strong voice for our constituency.

One of the best parts of representing our constituency since 2017 has been meeting the wonderful people that make our towns and villages what they are. You deserve a Government that delivers for you, and not in its own self-interest.

If re-elected on 4 July, I will continue to fight for our towns and villages, on both national and local issues. We deserve better than waiting lists millions of people long, a cost of living crisis that is hurting people so badly and anti-social behaviour plaguing our communities.

I firmly believe a Labour Government will address these issues and deliver the change our country so desperately needs.

Hema YellaPragada - Green

People should vote for me because I am deeply committed to our community, have a proven track record of making positive impact, and have been an effective representative of the residents of Myton and Heathcote.

Having called Warwick and Leamington my home for over 20 years, I've had the privilege of serving in various voluntary roles, from serving meals to the elderly through Sewa Day to supporting causes like the Save Soil campaign, Bee Friendly, and Clean Air, and for supporting women’s issues as a trustee of Women Stepping Out and as a District Councillor, I've dedicated myself to addressing local challenges and people’s concerns effectively.

Since being elected as a councillor, I've campaigned successfully to secure essential amenities like bus services and post boxes for new housing developments. I've also been proactive in trying to tackle traffic congestion and working towards sustainable transport alternatives.

Hema YellaPragada: 'Voting Green assures a forward-thinking strategy'

My work demonstrates my commitment to addressing the practical issues our community faces, such as poor housing quality without proper infrastructure, air pollution, a lack of reliable, affordable, and sustainable public transport, and traffic congestion.

Our towns need effective representation, and as a Green MP, I will ensure that your voices are heard in Parliament. Unlike other parties, the Green Party is essentially democratic, and our MPs are not whipped, allowing me to truly represent your interests.

The Green Party has grown significantly in our district, reflecting a shift towards sustainable and responsible governance. The Conservatives have dwindled, and Labour has faltered on key issues like climate commitments and student loan reforms.

A vote for me and the Green Party is a vote for your voices to be heard at Westminster and for real hope and real change.

I will work tirelessly to support and help nurse our NHS back to health, improve our schools, voice for energy and water to be back in public hands, voice for well-insulated and affordable homes that would not only bring energy bills down, address the cost of living crisis, but also address the climate crisis, and develop a robust jobs and skills strategy to help industries transition to net zero.

Together, we can build a stronger, greener, and more inclusive community. Vote for a future where every voice matters and every challenge is addressed with integrity and dedication.

James Uffindell - Conservative

I’m not a career politician; I’m an action-orientated businessman who gets things done, and I am determined to deliver for local people across our communities.

That means delivering on more police officers, increasing from the 320 we’ve recruited over the past eight years. Safer streets, cutting crime, cracking down on county lines, and reducing anti-social behaviour – that’s my plan for the police.

I want to invest more in education: our schools, our students, and their futures. I’m delighted the Conservative-funded Oakley School will open this September; Myton School is getting a new upper school, and the Conservatives have promised an extra £2 billion for the schools’ budget.

We have great health services here, but we can always do more: Warwick Hospital is getting a new surgical unit, and I’m supporting a new Wellbeing Hub with GP practice at the old Covent Garden site.

James Uffindell 'I am determined to deliver for local people across our communities'

Many families in our towns are in new and recent developments; it is a top priority for me to ensure that there is appropriate infrastructure in place: health centres, shops, and good roads.

We are blessed to have great businesses here, large and small, and I’ll hold a Jobs Fair each year to help everyone in our area find a secure job as well as campaign for changes to business rates to help our high streets.

I will put my efforts into tackling the big issues and bring big idea.

I’m backing the plans for a new community stadium for Leamington; will make sure the Country Park in Bishop’s Tachbrook opens as soon as possible and improve transport for our rural areas.

Above all, I will listen to residents and always respond; I’ll discuss my ideas with local people and ensure their voices are heard. Warwick and Leamington deserve an MP who is on their side.

Nigel Clarke - Reform

Our country has so much potential, but both Labour and the Conservatives have broken promise after promise for the last 30 years.

You are worse off, both financially and culturally. Wages are stagnant, we have a housing crisis, our young people struggle to get on the property ladder, we have rising crime, energy bills are some of the highest in Europe, the NHS isn’t working, both legal and illegal immigration are at record levels and woke ideology has captured our public institutions and schools.

The Conservatives have failed and Labour will fail too. A vote for either is a vote for more incompetence, dishonesty and failure.

We are ruled by an out-of-touch political class who have turned their backs on our country.

Reform is the alternative.

Only Reform will stand up for British culture, identity and values. We will freeze immigration and stop the boats. Restore law and order. Repair our broken public services. Cut taxes to make work pay. End government waste. Slash energy bills. Unlock real economic growth.

Only Reform will take back control over our borders, our money and our laws. Only Reform will secure Britain’s future as a free, proud and rich nation.

Join the revolt Vote for Reform on the 4 July 2024
