Women of the Lord Leycester Talk

Join us for this FREE talk from the Master of the Lord Leycester in the Guildhall at 11am on 28th March. General admission applies.

"This is a man's place", wrote writer Mary Raphael when she visited the Lord Leycester Hospital in the 1920s. Founded by a man, for men, with men as patrons and Masters of the institution, the Lord Leycester would have certainly looked like a man's place to outsiders, yet women have always played an important role in the history of the hospital. Digging into the archives gives us a glimpse into the role women have assumed over the centuries – from servants to the Master, from Wives to Sisters, from troublemakers to peacemakers, and much more
