Nestled just outside the quiet and quaint village of Snitterfield, the Stratford Park Hotel & Golf Club is more than just a place to stay overnight or to practice your putting.

With fantastic views over the South Warwickshire countryside, it is also a fantastic place to enjoy a delicious meal in tranquil surroundings.

That is exactly what we did earlier this month, on a peaceful spring evening as the sun was setting.

The beautiful surroundings were matched by the care and attention provided by our host who could not have been more welcoming. Throughout the meal he was attentive and clearly had an eye for the finer details - all of which added to our dining experience.

A pint of draft Birra Moretti and a non-alcoholic G & T were ordered as we surveyed the range of classic dishes on the menu.

To start we enjoyed the calamari and the chicken liver pate. The former was a generous portion of squid rings coated in crispy, golden brown batter and served with a very moorish garlic aioli.

The latter, a very generous helping or smooth and rich pate with red onion chutney and lots of crunchy freshly cooked ciabatta.

For mains the eight-hour slow cooked blade of beef was a tender, rich and elegant dish that was simply a pleasure. Barely a cut of the knife was needed as the perfectly-cooked beef fell. Served with mashed potato, steamed veg and a rich jus, it was a true joy.

On the other side of the table the wagyu beef burger with streaky bacon and cheese in a toasted brioche bun was ordered and quickly consumed. Served with a generous helping of crispy fries - another winner.

And for dessert we finished by sharing the chocolate brownie. Served with berries and ice cream, this goey, elegant brownie was a rich and unctuous end to a lovely meal.

The food, coupled with the great service and the idyllic surroundings make the Stratford Park Hotel & Golf Club a great destination dining spot for this summer.

And that is not all the independent hotel has to offer.

Now with 32 bedrooms, the converted 14th century farmhouse also boasts an 8-hole 72-par golf course, and offers a range of visitor and guest packages.

Visitors are welcome to enjoy a meal served in the hotel's Conservatory Bar or No.19 Restaurant or, weather permitting, al fresco on the patio overlooking the beautiful Warwickshire countryside.

The adjacent Meadow Barn events venue is popular for bespoke weddings, surrounded by a private arrival courtyard with fountain and terrace seating.
