Water damage and decay force urgent repairs at historic Warwick restaurant

A series of repairs are needed inside and out at a Warwick restaurant.
Pizza Express has applied for permission for a series of works at its grade II listed restaurant on Jury Street.
Plans submitted to Warwick District Council said "weathering, age-related decay and localised defects" had caused a number of issues.
If approved, the works would see the roof, chimney stacks, windows and masonry repaired.
Some of the outside would also be repainted the same colour it is now.
Upstairs, water damage would need to be fixed and the leak plugged.
"Overall, the building appears to remain structurally stable and continues to perform its intended function as a commercial premises," the application explained.
"However, a programme of repair and maintenance is now required to address defects affecting the roofs, chimney stacks, rainwater goods, masonry, external joinery and associated internal finishes.
"The proposed works are intended to prevent further deterioration of the historic fabric, improve the building's weather resistance and secure its long-term conservation whilst retaining as much original material as reasonably practicable."
Pizza Express has been at the same unit on Jury Street since 1998.
The application continued: "It is considered that the proposals will preserve the significance of the grade II listed building and its contribution to the Warwick conservation area.
"The works will deliver a positive heritage benefit through the repair, protection and long-term conservation of the building fabric, ensuring its continued use and maintenance."
