Warwickshire tourism chief makes plea to residents to visit local attractions
South Warwickshire's tourism chief has issued a plea for families to support attractions in the region that are keeping low prices in the wake of the cost-of-living crisis.
Hundreds of the area's tourism businesses are gearing up for the start of the first full peak trading season since before the pandemic, and to mark English Tourism Week (17-26 March) south Warwickshire's tourism board, Shakespeare's England, has highlighted the top five most affordable attractions in the region.
During the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's First Folio, a family of four can explore Shakespeare's Guildroom & Guildhall - where The Bard spent his school years - for £33, which includes learning how to write with a quill and ink.
Wallace and Gromit fans can also gain entry to a museum that is dedicated to showcasing interactive mechanical art – the MAD Museum – which is based in central Stratford-upon-Avon. Entry is £25 for two adults and two children when booked online in advance.
Two adults and two children can gain entry to the UK's largest collection of tropical butterflies, Stratford Butterfly Farm, for £27.50.
Other free attractions include the Kenilworth Trails, where visitors can explore several history-inspired walks up to five miles long – including a clue-based trail called Mystery of the Abbey.
Games lovers can even have a go at designing their own video game for free at the Silicon Spa exhibition inside the Leamington-based Royal Pump Rooms until 8 May.
Helen Peters, chief executive at Shakespeare's England, said: "The cost of living crisis means that tourism businesses are needing to strike the delicate, unenviable balance of providing offers that are competitive enough to attract visitors through the doors, whilst ensuring they remain financially viable.
"That's why we have put together some varied suggestions of some of the best value attractions in our region, to underline the fact that there are some fantastic days out that can be had without breaking the bank.
"This year's English Tourism Week marks the start of the first full peak trading season for many independent attractions, hotels and restaurants for three years, and so this spring and summer presents a golden opportunity for tourists to take advantage of the offers that are out there – if they can."
