Warwickshire County Council has unveiled its plans to reduce potholes and improve roads across the district.

During today's press conference at Shire Hall (29 August), WCC leader Cllr George Finch announced plans for a phase, set to begin next month (September).

Cllr Finch explained the options include repairing potholes in-house with a reduction in the overall highway contract price and cost for each pothole filled.

He went on to state that the average cost of a pothole in the UK is around £72.

Cllr Finch said: "Our goal is to beat that and generate significant savings each year.

"We will wait for the outcome of our engagement with the market and continue to explore cost-saving measures in the meantime.

"We will work to stamp out potholes by stopping them forming in the first place."

Cllr Finch further stated that potholes are an issue amongst the wider issue of poor road conditions, concerning residents and announced the council will publish a new five-year highways assessment management strategy, focused on prevention rather than cure, in 2026.

This is expected to be cheaper than fixing potholes, "once it's too late."

To help with this plan, data and AI will be utilised "to drive efficient prevention" and "plan works to reduce the percentage of our road network in poor condition"
