Plans to build new offices which could help create 60 jobs for a local vehicle design business have been signed off by district planners.

Contechs Ltd has been granted permission for a new two-storey office at Budbrooke Industrial Estate by Warwick District Council.

The firm says the canalside building will help it grow as it deals with more EV clients worldwide.

The building will be built on scrubland next to Grand Union House, which was taken over Contechs in 2021.

The company, which also has bases in Basildon and Cologne, first moved to Warwick in 2002.

And Contechs says it will now create even more jobs as it expands its design and management team.

"In 2021 the directors of Contechs Ltd acquired Grand Union House, the adjacent office building on Budbrooke Road, to enable the expansion of its automotive design business which has been based on the Budbrooke Industrial Estate since 2002," the application form said.

"Contechs' office space needs are increasing rapidly with its continuing success working for worldwide electric vehicle EV clients.

"More space is now required to accommodate the design and management team of the business, hence the reason for the application."

The site, which falls partly within the canal conservation area, now has permission for 22 car parking spaces as well as bicycle storage.

Signing off on the application, a council report said: "The proposed development would respect the character of the street scene and this part of the conservation area which comprises a highly built up industrial estate with industrial units of varying scale and design.

"Appropriate construction materials and design considerations have been proposed for a building of this type.

"The proposal seeks to incorporate soft landscaping into the design to reflect the character of the existing site."

The application can be seen here.
