A Warwick takeaway could be turned into a family home, if plans are approved by Warwick District Council.

GAD New Built Ltd has applied to convert the Millennium Wok Chinese takeaway on Emscote Road into a three-bed house.

The Hatton-based firm's application to Warwick District Council said the terraced building was bought specifically to be converted into a house, with the estate agents having struggled to sell it as a business.

"The signage and shop front are to be removed from the Emscote Road elevation and new front door, steps and windows installed to the ground floor," the application said.

"All windows to be replaced with new PVCu double glazed items.

"It is envisaged that some repair work may be required to the main pitched roof."

It added: "The existing rear garden area is to be revamped and separated from the existing parking area to create a private amenity space.

"The existing parking and bin store area is to be retained with minor alterations to its levels."

Plans show the existing flat roof would become pitched and the porch area would be replaced with a small extension.

The internal layout would also be altered.

The application continued: "All work will be carried out in a sympathetic manner to the style and character of the original building as well as the neighbouring buildings utilising reclaimed and new materials where appropriate.

"There is suitable space for a rear garden/private amenity space and the existing parking area will be utilised.

"The use of sympathetic hard and soft landscaping will ensure it fits in with the street scene and surrounding dwellings."
