A local school still unable to fully reopen after finding potentially-dangerous concrete on site has contacted exam boards to make sure they are aware of the disruption faced by pupils.

Aylesford School is still unable to welcome back all students a week after the start of term.

In a recent update to parents the school said it was working to accommodate all year groups on site after it was told on Friday (September 8) that most of the school would have to remain shut.

The Tapping Way school was also able to welcome back Year 13 pupils today (September 13), but most remain at home.

"We are logging details of every day that our exam age students are not in school / online learning as clear evidence of the disruption for the exam boards," an update to parents said this morning.

Preparations for bringing Year 11 back are now also underway.

The school also said it had been pushing the Department for Education "very hard" for temporary classrooms.

And local MP Matt Western has also continued to petition the government for more support.

"Like you I am still deeply unhappy that we have been placed in this terrible situation," a message from headteacher Tim Hodgson to parents said.

"However, feeling sorry for ourselves won’t get the job done.

"There is so much more to do but I know that each day we are doing everything we can with the resources that we have available.

"I know there is still much more to do, and we are moving as fast as we can with the resources that are available."

The school has also continued to work to get its online teaching platform fully set up for those still at home.

And it has said it is committed to "ensuring that all those who receive free school meals can receive them when not in school".

If you are eligible for free school meals, complete the online form found here and the school will then make arrangements.
