A Warwick pub has been given the green light for a makeover for its beer garden.

Warwick District Council has signed off on a number of works for the Railway Inn on Guy Street.

Listed building consent was granted for Admiral Taverns for a new pergola with lighting, new astro turf, paving and fences to be installed.

The application said: "Admiral Taverns are planning some repairs and upgrades to the premises, as part of this it is intended to make more use of the existing garden area.

"A new pergola is proposed to give shelter to customers from the unpredictable weather, creating a space suitable for all, with new flooring, lighting and seating.

"To extend the viewing space a new external TV is proposed to this area."

It continued: "Admiral Taverns would like to strengthen this into the area by offering improved facilities throughout and ensure the pub be more suited to safe socialising for all.

"All proposals have been carefully considered to suit the building and its surroundings.

"The proposals within the application have been designed to offer an altogether safer and more enjoyable experience for all people visiting the pub, particularly people local to the area who will have a better facility to enjoy only a short distance away."

The council signed off on the plans at the end of April.

Approving the application, a council report said: "The proposals, in particular the new pagoda, will be read in the context of an existing pub garden and are considered appropriate given the main use of the site as a public house.

"The proposed hardstanding and astro turf are considered acceptable.

"The proposed fencing is considered to be acceptable and the replacement gates will be of the same size as the existing, the key change being the material going from metal gates to timber which is considered acceptable.

"The relocation of the shed is considered acceptable.

"The scheme is considered to be acceptable and would not cause harm to the character and appearance of the street scene."
