Warwick planning roundup: school steps forward, new HMO and athletics track
By James Smith 5th Sep 2026
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Plans Put Forward
A planning application has now been submitted for a much-delayed alternative provision school in Warwick, a year after it was planned to open.
Talenton Academy was due to open in September 2025, but the full proposals for the Fusiliers Way school have only just been submitted to Warwick District Council.
The application from G F Tomlinson and the Department for Education show the two-storey school would also have sports facilities, car parking, cycle storage and a multi-use games area.
Talenton will accommodate up to 64 pupils aged between 11 and 16.
Shop's New Life
A closed Warwick shop and the flat above it could be turned into a four-bedroom house in multiple occupation (HMO), if plans are signed off by Warwick District Council.
Avisaar Ltd has applied for planning permission to change the former Black & White Stores building on Peel Road.
The application shows a single-storey extension would also be built at the back of the building, and the former shop front would be removed.
Athletics Track
Residents have been given a first glimpse at what a new athletics track in Warwick could look like, as a planning application for the facility has now been submitted.
A planning application has been put forward by Warwick District Council (WDC) for the track on the land near Fusiliers Way.
The much-anticipated new facility comes as part of a major overhaul in the area between Warwick and Leamington Spa, with the existing Edmonscote Track set to be moved to the new site.
