Warwick planning roundup: retirement flats, hotel's future and Aldi decision?
By James Smith 13th Jun 2026
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Aldi Again
Controversial plans to alter the car park at a local Aldi are set to go before councillors next week for the third time.
The issue around the access for the Tachbrook Park Drive store first went before the council's planning committee in January, but a decision was kicked down the road with more information sought from highways officers.
Warwick District Council was due to consider the application again in February but they were pulled from the agenda at the 11th hour.
Now they are scheduled to go before councillors again on Tuesday (16 June), with planning officers recommending approval be given.
Retirement Flats Forced Through?
The company behind plans for 46 retirement flats between Warwick and Leamington Spa has launched a bid to force through the plans after they were refused by council planners.
Warwick District Council (WDC) last year refused McCarthy and Stone Retirement Lifestyles Ltd's application for the three-storey building at Harbury Lane.
The scheme received multiple objections from residents, local councillors and Bishops Tachbrook Parish Council before being thrown out.
But now McCarthy and Stone has submitted an appeal to the planning inspectorate in an attempt to get the decision overturned.
Hotel's Latest Scheme
Plans to convert a grade II listed hotel into homes look set to be approved.
Planners at Warwick District Council have recommended the latest application for the Glebe Hotel in Barford be approved, with councillors to make a decision on the application at next week's planning committee meeting.
New designs would see the grade II listed Glebe Hotel turned into one big family home.
