Warwick planning roundup: McDonald's, community centre and bungalow of 'little merit'
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
McDonald's Decision
Wary councillors approved 24-hour opening at a McDonald's in Warwick – but only for an initial 12-month period.
Operators of the restaurant on Emscote Road, Warwick, applied to Warwick District Council to lift planning conditions that restricted opening to 6am until 11pm each day to prevent overnight nuisance.
Nearby residents questioned what had changed since but in assessing the decision during Wednesday's meeting of the district's planning committee – the panel of councillors that decides – it was revealed that the advice of the professionals at the council had never altered.
Community Centre
Planning permission has been granted for the Priory Pools Community Centre, a "vital project" set to provide a dedicated community space for residents of the Packmores Estate and nearby areas west of Warwick town centre.
This achievement marks the culmination of campaigning by the local community, most notably the Packmores Residents Association and The Gap, with the support of the local councils.
Located on the edge of Priory Park, the new centre will feature a large multi-purpose hall, meeting rooms, interview spaces, and a community café. It will replace the outdated Packmores Centre at Sussex Court, which no longer meets the needs of the local population.
'Little Merit' Bungalow
A Warwick bungalow of "little architectural merit" could be demolished and replaced with two houses if plans are signed off by the district council.
Harrison Projects Ltd has applied for planning permission to demolish the home known as Willowcroft, on Stratford Road.
The bungalow, next to Aylesford School, would be replaced with two, four-bedroom homes.
