Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.

Bridge Repair

Works on Castle Bridge in Warwick are due to finish in late May 2025, Warwickshire County Council has confirmed.

Engineers have been on site on the A425 for months, carrying out a series of repair works.

Traffic lights remain at the bridge at the Myton Road end, and will remain in place until the project is complete.

Office Block Drain

A councillor insists "it is wrong" that Warwickshire County Council is shelling out £265,000 per year on a disused office block and that the losses were preventable.

Cllr John Holland recently questioned the ongoing cost of the mothballed county office block at Barrack Street, Warwick. 

The eye-watering figure prompted disbelief on social media and while Cllr Holland was promised a breakdown of costs by deputy leader and portfolio holder for finance and property Cllr Peter Butlin, he says he has yet to receive it.

Military Accommodation Takes Shape

A groundbreaking ceremony has been held at a military base in Warwickshire to mark the start of construction of a new £13m Single Living Accommodation block.

The block at Defence Munitions Kineton, which will include 46 bedrooms for officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers based at the site, will be constructed by Algeco on behalf of VIVO, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation's (DIO) built estate contractor.   

Representatives from DM Kineton, DIO, Algeco and VIVO took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new building, which is expected to be finished next spring.
