Works on Castle Bridge in Warwick are due to finish in late May 2025, Warwickshire County Council has confirmed.

Engineers have been on site on the A425 for months, carrying out a series of repair works.

Traffic lights remain at the bridge at the Myton Road end, and will remain in place until the project is complete.

Construction of the grade II listed bridge first began in 1789 and was opened four years later.

The works - which are part of Warwickshire County Council's Historic Bridge Maintenance Programme - include masonry repairs to the elevations, underside and balustrade.

The carriageway will also be resurfaced and the footpath repaired.

An update in February from the local authority said the repairs on the west elevation are now complete, with scaffolding now only in place on the other side.

Works on the bridge have hit the headlines over the past week after Warwickshire Police released a public appeal after scaffolding was thrown off the bridge, damaging the boats below.

A CCTV appeal has also been released.
