Warwick man charged over attacks on Pakistani journalist and lawyer

A local man is among three to have been charged over the alleged violent attacks on two Pakistani dissidents.
Liam McGarry, 25, is said to have been involved in a plan to attack human rights lawyer Mirza Shahzad Akbar.
Mr McGarry of Kington Lane, Claverdon, was charged with conspiracy to assault and occasion bodily harm in relation to the incident in Cambridge.
The Metropolitan Police said two other men have also been arrested and charged this week in relation to that incident and to the attack of journalist Adil Raja - also on Christmas Eve.
Asaf Afsar, 40, of Birmingham, and Mark Regan, 53, of Birmingham were charged with conspiracy to assault and occasion bodily harm – in relation to an incident in Chesham on 24 December, 2025 - and conspiracy to assault and occasion bodily harm – in relation to an incident in Cambridge on 24 December, 2025.
All three appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 5 February but did not enter pleas.
The three men were all arrested on Tuesday, 3 February in connection with the ongoing investigation, which is being led by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing London.
Four others have already been charged over the alleged incidents.
Louis Regan, 25, also of Birmingham, has been charged with two cases of conspiracy to commit assault occasioning actual bodily harm - alongside Karl Blackbird, 40, from Bedworth.
Clark McAulay, 39, from Coventry, faces one charge of conspiracy to commit assault occasioning actual bodily harm in relation to the incident at in Chesham.
Doneto Brammer, 21, from Wood Green, London, faces charges of possession of a prohibited weapon, conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life, and conspiracy to commit arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered.
