Warwick Hospital is under "extreme pressure" due to junior doctor strikes and is urging the public to make sure they only use 999 for "life-threatening emergencies".

The latest six-day strike began today (January 3) with members of the British Medical Association walking out during a continued disputer over pay.

If it continues, it could be the longest strike in NHS history - and ministers say there will be no negotiations while stoppages continue.

Amidst the walkout, South Warwickshire University NHS Trust (SWFT) said local services have been majorly impacted.

"Today is the start of a six-day junior doctor strike," a SWFT statement said.

"Junior doctors make up a huge percentage of the medical workforce, with the term covering everyone who is graduated to those who have many years of experience.

"Warwick Hospital is already under extreme pressure.

"We are urging the public to ensure you chose the right service for your needs."

The trust is also urging family members to collect patients, and provide a "warm environment that is stocked with essentials such as food, drink and medicines" once they are home.
