Thousands of music fans are expected to head to Warwick this week as a new music festival heads to the town.

Indie favourites Train will kick-start the Warwick Sessions festival today (July 2) with the festival running until Sunday (July 6).

Craig David, Elbow, The Stranglers and Will Young are all set to feature this week as the event takes over St Nicholas Park.

Preparations for the event have been taking place over the last week, with a two-metre high wall being erected around the perimeter of the festival.

Organisers AEG Events were recently granted a premises licence for the event, despite the objections of a neighbour.

Tickets are still available for the event.

Organisers said: "St Nicholas Park is a unique setting in a town with a great appetite for live music.

"We're excited to bring the biggest acts from Elbow, S Club and The Stranglers."

Cllr Ella Billiald, portfolio holder for arts & economy at Warwick District Council said: "We are very excited to be welcoming these big name artists to Warwick in the wonderful backdrop of St Nicholas Park.

"We do hope that these concerts will attract lots of new visitors to our beautiful town, benefitting our local hospitality businesses and retail."
