Warwick Folk Festival to return this week for first time in three years
Returning this week, Warwick Folk Festival retains the enviable reputation as one of the country's most forward-looking events.
This year's line-up exemplifies that reputation.
Back after an enforced three year absence, activities get underway on Thursday afternoon (July 21) and continue until Sunday night (July 24).
There is a touch of irony as the organisers prepare the new site at Warwick Castle in the sweltering weather of this week.
Three years ago, opening night was in the hands of Billy Bragg who proudly announced "today is the hottest day of the year (2019) and the most stupid day of the year" – the day Boris Johnson was appointed as Prime Minister.
Who could be as provocative as Bragg in this 2022 event?
Seth Lakeman headlines Thursday night - the very experienced practitioner who might just venture into the political arena given the opportunity.
Look out, too, for Steam Chicken and Granny's Attic, regular contributors to the success of the festival.
Friday is packed with talent including Kirsty Gallacher and headliners, Show of Hands.
Saturday, too, with Spiers and Boden, festival patron Will Pound teaming up with Jenn Butterworth and Nancy Kerr with James Fagan is looking exceptionally exciting.
The evening is brought to a close by Spiers and Boden.
During Sunday, The Warwick Festival Folk Choir make appearances before the four days reach a close with The Young 'Uns late that night.
The new Castle Park venue, adjacent to the castle, will be full of the welcome regulars - the craft stalls, the kid's zone, jester stage and the morris stage.
This as well as a host of food and drink stalls.
Running alongside the main event at Castle Park, a fringe festival will be held in the town centre.
A new compact site, weather set fair and some outstanding performers - I can't wait for Thursday lunchtime and the opening up!
Tickets are still available, with a pass for the whole weekend costing £130.
