A Warwick charity shop has closed its doors after four decades in the town.

The Children's Society had its final day of trading on Smith Street on Wednesday (September 16).

The store first opened its doors in 1986 and has contributed tens of thousands of pounds to the charity's work supporting children and young people.

Reduced footfall in the area and rising operating costs have "made the difficult decision to close necessary," the charity said.

Regional Manager, Antony Richards paid tribute to the shop's staff and volunteers as well as the local community.

He said: "I'd like to thank our remarkable team who always go above and beyond to give shoppers the best possible experience, creating a welcoming atmosphere and offering great quality bargains.

"It is their dedication, alongside the generosity of everyone who has donated to the shop and the loyalty of our customers, that has allowed us to thrive in Warwick for so long and raise such a fantastic amount for The Children's Society."

The Children's Society works nationwide to "transform the hopes and happiness of young people facing abuse, exploitation and neglect".
