A Portuguese café in Warwick has been given permission to keep its outdoor tables and chairs by Warwick District Council.

Pastelaria Portuguesa has had its application for a pavement licence approved by the local authority.

The Coten End eatery can now keep three tables and 12 chairs on the road to the front of the business - in a roped off area.

Plans state they would be available for use from 9am to 5pm, seven days per week.

New laws on pavement licences were brought into effect in the summer of 2020 to make it easier for businesses to apply for permission to put furniture outside during the pandemic.

Residents can have their say on the application here.

Pastelaria Portuguesa was recently highlighted by local MP Matt Western as the Labour representative gave a shout out to several small businesses across the town.

On the 10th anniversary of Small Business Saturday UK he praised the "fantastic small businesses we are lucky to have here in our towns and villages".

"I've lived here in our towns for 20 years now and have seen the huge benefit these independent businesses bring to our local economy and how they make our communities so special," the MP for Warwick and Leamington said.

"It's hugely important to me to support them in every way I can, all year round, whether that is through assisting them with casework, any issues they raise or just spending money with them.

"We have a wealth of wonderful small businesses locally and I'd really encourage people, if they're able to, to support them this festive season and beyond."
