The former Holland & Barrett unit in the centre of Warwick could be home to the town's new banking hub, a planning application has revealed.

With Lloyds on Swan Street closing in June, and many of the other major banks already having left the town, Warwick is set to get the one-stop shop for all major banks.

Councillors this week raised concerns about the future of the proposed facility after it was revealed the hub was unlikely to be heading to Shire Hall as expected.

But an application submitted by Cash Access UK Limited has revealed the empty shop on High Street could be the permanent home for the banking hub.

The application to Warwick District Council is for a series of signs at the premises which has been empty since Holland & Barrett pulled out of town in May 2023.

"Changes proposed as part of the property's conversion from an empty unit to Banking Hub function includes installing heritage aesthetic styled signage to reflect the new Banking Hub services," the application explained.

"The heritage brand fascia and the projecting signage are to be situated at the top of the existing ground floor elevation and their heritage aesthetic will pay respect to the historical context.

"These additions are very much in keeping with the character of the area and will have very little impact on surrounding properties."

A previous application to turn the Holland & Barrett unit into a tutoring business was refused in December 2023, and the unit has been on the market since.

A banking hub pilot has recently been rolled out in Kenilworth Library where Post Office staff manage the cash transactions while staff from various banks have availability for appointments and drop-ins on a rotating basis.
