Warwickshire Police has issued a warning following the report of an individual impersonating a police officer while calling a local business in the Warwick area.
The call came this afternoon from a number beginning with 01926, leading police to believe the culprits were 'spoofing' a Warwickshire landline number.
While an investigation is currently underway, officials have urged caution among residents and business owners.
Warwickshire Police stated: "We will never ask you to give sensitive information - like logins and passwords - over the phone.
"If you are in any doubt at all as to the legitimacy of the caller - hang up immediately and call us directly on 101. Any genuine police officer will have no issue at all with you doing that.
To protect vulnerable individuals, Police advice individuals discuss the matter with them this evening to raise their awareness.
Those who receive any suspicious calls are advised to hang up and report the incident by calling 101.
