Two hospitalised as firefighters tackle blaze in Warwick town centre

Two people have been taken to hospital as firefighters tackle a flat fire in Friars Street, Warwick.

Five fire engines were dispatched to the town centre blaze at around 7pm.

The fire is now under control according to emergency services but road closures remain in place and police have asked residents to avoid the area.

A Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Five appliances in attendance at a fire in Friars Street, Warwick multiples rescues in progress."

Whilst Warwickshire Police added: "Police officers, fire fighters and paramedics are in attendance at a flat fire in Friar Street, Warwick.

"Two people have been taken to hospital and one person is being treated by paramedics at the scene.

"The fire is now under control.

"Road closures remain in place on Friar Street the junctions with Crompton Street and Bowling Green Street.

"Please avoid the area."
